Although the health field in our country have met with the information technologies, with the realization of the relationship of the information society with informatics, significant developments have taken place in scientific and technological areas during the recent years. Within these developments, non-governmental organizations bear the burden of crucial tasks.
The Medical Informatics Association carried out a specific and important task with the aim of gathering information regarding the activities of the state, non-governmental organizations and trade organizations related with health informatics and medical informatics, to make such information accessible, to encourage that all the professionals in health informatics and medical informatics reach contemporary knowledge and skill, to create the ambiance for the professionals’ communication and information sharing, to encourage multidisciplinary studies, to determine the problems in Turkey in the field of medical informatics and health informatics, to create solutions for such matters, to cooperate with other agencies to implement the projects, to improve the health informatics and medical informatics knowledge of those who receive and provide health care services, to arrange meetings and issue publications in order to shape public opinion. Held this year, on February 22 to 26, in Orlando, in the United States of America, HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Conference and Exhibition, was at the same time host of the 50th anniverasary of HIMSS's establishment. In the event where record-breaking number (31.225) of people has participated, 900 companies and organizations found the opportunity to to exhibit their products and services. The participants, under different titles, and in 19 parallel sessions, watched training presentations of aggregately over 400.
